The English Corner was originally implemented to support under-resourced students through one-on-one tutoring with both full and part-time English faculty. The English Corner is under-utilized by AAPI students, particularly those who attend Richland as Online Learning students.
The AANAPISI grant is working with the World Languages, Cultures and Communications department and the English Corner staffs to extend tutoring services using a collaborative software interface to our Online Learning population. The ability to tutor online would essentially give Online AAPI students the same benefits that campus students have with the English Corner – an 11% higher chance at success. Part of this initiative is also to provide additional professional development workshops for full-time and adjunct faculty to better assist AAPI students with this need.
