With class, homework and other responsibilities, finding the time and money to take a partner out on a date is tough, but with the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), students can find cheap — yet impressive — date ideas locally.

Students of the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) who are taking six credit hours or more have access to a free transportation pass that lasts an entire semester.

If a student does not qualify, DART offers a reduced day pass for only $2.50. With either of these passes, students are given the opportunity to explore a wide variety of interesting areas in Dallas.

There are many potential date spots throughout the city. Options range from cozy cafes known for their comfort food and quirky dish names to eclectic eateries known for their deliciously seasoned entrees.

Restaurants are not the only date spots that DART can help students travel to, however. There are also beautiful shopping districts filled with unique shops.

Below is a list of popular pockets of the Dallas area that can be traveled to using DART:

Glazed Donut Works

For those who have a sweet tooth, Glazed Donut Works, located in Deep Ellum, offers delicious, delectable and creatively crafted donuts. This little bakery has late hours, so it is a perfect spot for a weekend outing. It is open Thursdays from 9 p.m. to midnight, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Buzzbrews

This cozy diner, located in Dallas, offers a plethora of quirky options on its menu,  such as the Griddle Toast Tooty Fruity and the ever popular “Drink Till You Buzz” coffee bar, which are both available 24 hours. Yes, this diner is open 24 hours, which makes for a perfect late dinner or hot drink spot after a long date.

Angelika Film Center & Cafe

Located in Mockingbird Station, the Angelika Film Center & Café is a great option for students who love movies. Every Tuesday, the theater offers discounted tickets for students and complimentary popcorn. Students must present their student I.D. to the box office for their discount and free popcorn.

Dallas Museum of Art

Students who are fans of live jazz music and interactive exhibits would love the event that the Dallas Museum of Art hosts every third Friday of every month called “Late Nights at the Dallas Museum of Art.”

For only $10, students can have access to hundreds of experiences that the museum has to offer, including readings, film screenings, tours and more.

Pho Crimson

For students who are open to trying  ethnic food, Pho Crimson offers a warm, eclectic atmosphere and uniquely crafted Vietnamese cuisine.

There is a wide variety of menu options ranging from lightly flavored to spicy dishes. Located in the Uptown Dallas shopping district, Pho Crimson is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Mockingbird Station

If students are interested in a night out on the town, Mockingbird Station is a beautiful shopping district filled with vintage clothing, jewelry and an extensive selection of eateries.

It is open Monday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The DART Go-Pass offered to students has already benefitted  many. Ishan Gibran, a student of North Lake College (NLC), said, “It’s making life so much easier. DART is my primary mode of transport every day. With this, I am saving so much money.”

DART helps students save money on gas and parking. The NLC train station is conveniently located on campus and opens the door to many adventures that can be shared with loved ones.
