David Hogg To Speak About Activism at Brookhaven College

This article appeared in the Jan. 22, 2019, issue of the student newsletter.

David Hogg will bring his message of passionate activism to Brookhaven College on Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 10:30-11:50 a.m. He'll speak on increasing voter participation and civic engagement.

Hogg was a senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., when a gunman killed 17 people last February in one of America's deadliest school shootings. In response, Hogg began to speak out about gun violence.

He is a co-founder of March for Our Lives, now the largest youth-led movement in the world. While his advocacy focuses on gun violence, when he speaks to students he informs, challenges and empowers his generation to resist apathy and become catalysts for positive social change.

The keynote event in the Performance Hall is free and open to all. Hogg is the second speaker invited to Brookhaven under a grant awarded to the college by the Department of Education to support free speech and allow for the discussion of diverse ideas or viewpoints.
