Wind Ensemble, directed by Derrick Logozzo, is the only daytime community college-based concert band in the DFW metroplex. It is open by audition to all qualified players of wind, brass, and percussion instruments who attend Richland College.

Members of this diverse group include students majoring in music, non-music majors who enjoy playing their instruments, as well as emeritus students who are active players in area church and community musical organizations. The group performs a wide variety of music from the concert band repertoire including marches, transcriptions, and contemporary original works for band.

They rehearse Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30-5:30 pm. Additional sectional rehearsals outside of class time occur on an as-needed basis, typically once every 2-3 weeks per section. A limited number of school-owned instruments are available for student use.

Students enrolled in the group can also take a 30-minute private lesson each week for 1 additional credit hour ($39/semester for in-county residents).

Auditions for the Fall semester are ongoing from now through the start of classes.  If you are interested in playing in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and are new to the group, please call Derrick Logozzo at (972) 238-6254 to set up an audition time.  This is more of a placement audition rather than a competitive entrance audition so that you are assigned to a suitable chair in your section.

Private applied lessons are not available through eConnect.  If you are enrolled in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and want to enroll in private applied lessons, you must do that through Derrick’s office.
