Program Coordinator and Lead Faculty, Richland College
M.T. Hickman has served as the HEEM program coordinator and as a full-time faculty member since 1997. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and public relations from the University of Southern Mississippi and a master’s degree in applied communication from the University of North Texas. She has served as an instructor for ITT Technical Institute, a marketing manager for WorldTravel Partners, director of membership for the Dallas Business Association and a sales manager and event coordinator for the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Under her leadership, the HEEM program was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Foundation to develop Richland’s program to promote careers in meeting and event management; she has also served in other MPI capacities including as chair of its D/FW multicultural committee and on its student-faculty task force. She was named MPI’s meeting planner of the year in 2008 and received Richland’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 1999. In 2016 and 2017, she received the nomination for the Colleen Rickenbacher Leadership Award.
Ms. Hickman is a certified meeting planner (CMP) and a certified protocol etiquette and civility professional (CPECP); she was a designated certified tour ambassador (CTA) and CTA trainer when those designations previously existed in the metroplex. She has also authored two chapters in meeting planning textbooks, as well as presented papers at national conferences. She serves on advisory board of The Hotel Association, the faculty advisory board for the International Association of Exhibitions and Events and is the co-chair of Faculty Engagement for both IMEX American and IMEX Frankfurt industry events.
