As an institution fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, Richland College is required to implement a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), an ongoing, focused course of action designed to improve student learning. Richland College's QEP is:
Learning to Learn: Developing Learning Power. The goal of the QEP is to foster in students the traits of the lifelong learner, focusing on the Dimension of Learning Power - Changing and Learning. The desired student learning outcome is:
Students will demonstrate their capacity to change and learn through effort and the intentional practice of thinking.
To promote success of the plan, participating faculty complete 24 hours of professional development training and implement teaching strategies in the Dimension of Learning Power - Changing and Learning to empower our students' learning.
How is it structured?
A full-time faculty QEP Director, reporting to the Vice President for Teaching and Learning, leads the plan with administrative assistance from a part-time QEP Staff Liaison and a part-time Department Assistant both reporting to the Executive Dean, Office of Planning, Research, Effectiveness, and Development (OPRED), effective fall 2013. The Senior Leadership has approved the budget necessary to staff and sustain the QEP for five years.
