Research Skills Boot Camp is a six-week research skills training program designed to build technical expertise in a modern research laboratory through hands-on guided instruction.

Supercharge Your STEM Education

Students who complete the Boot Camp will learn to use scientific equipment and how to perform research techniques including preparation of stock and working solutions, separation of complex mixtures, agarose gel electrophoresis of DNA and low-pressure liquid chromatography.

The goal of the Boot Camp is to provide basic experience in scientific research for community college students who are interested in exploring STEM research as a career choice or who would like research experience before applying to medical, dental or pharmacy and other professional schools.

Students in the Boot Camp receive guidance in scientific writing and professional coaching in personal brand development and management. Students in the Boot Camp will receive assistance applying for a paid summer research internship.

 
 

Application requirements:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in DCCCD for at least one credit course
  • Completed Biology 1406 or Chemistry 1411 with an B or higher
  • At least 17 years old at the time the application is due
  • Written response to the following prompt:
    • Prompt #1: Describe your career aspirations and explain why you've chosen it. Minimum 200 words 300 word maximum.
    • Prompt #2 Please state how the Research Skills Boot Camp will contribute to your STEM education. Minimum 200 words 300 word maximum.
  • One letter of recommendation from a professor who has known you academically during the last three years.
