Dual Credit

  • The door is wide open for qualified high school students to get a head start on college through the Dual Credit program offered by the Dallas County Community College District. Tuition is waived for qualified high school students enrolled through Dual Credit if their high school participates in the program. Dual credit means the students earn credit for high school and college course work simultaneously.

Any class offered by DCCCD – transferable college courses and technical/occupational programs – can be considered for Dual Credit, as long as the course is needed to complete high school graduation requirements. Students from ALL educational venues are welcomed:  public, private, home, and charter. The requirements for participation in Dual Credit are as follows:

Classes are offered to JUNIORS and SENIORS who,

    • pass required sections of THEA or are exempt based on ACT, SAT, or 11th grade TAKS scores
    • complete and submit a Dual Credit enrollment packet, which includes their high school transcript with all test scores.

Students who are not THEA exempt will need to take the Accuplacer Test at Richland. The test is free, but it does take approximately three hours to complete. Students should contact one of the Richland College Dual Credit staff members listed below for test times and a testing referral. The THEA exemption cut-off scores are:

    ACT                  Composite 23+             English 19+                  Math 19+
    SAT                  Composite 1070+         Reading 500+               Math 500+
TAKS               Language Arts 2200+    Writing 3+                    Math 2200+
