Acting I DRAM 1351
A beginning acting class, there is No prerequisite for this class. Acting 1 is a performance based class that focuses on the acting skills and techniques for acting. It will require students to work on and perform monologues and acting scenes. This is an interactive class requiring student participation.
Acting II DRAM 1352
Acting II is a further exploration of the material discovered in Acting I. Students will explore the world of acting and how it relates to multiple genres including Stage, Television, Film and Voiceover.
Acting III DRAM 2351
This class is a further exploration of the material discovered in Acting II. This class will focus on a study of character development through the study of rythm, space, shape, silence and sound, color and texture.
Improv - Theatre Workshop DRAM 1323 (SPRING ONLY)
This class will explore the art of "spontaneous acting". Improvisation is an art form which is utilized throughout a person's life. Whether that person ends up in the Boardroom or the Courtroom the tools learned in Improvisation are invaluable. This class will focus on learning skills such as problem solving, creativity, teamwork, flexibility of thought and fluency through the practice and study of improvisational comedy.
Demonstration Laboratory DRAM 1121
This class meets once a week. This class will explore the various areas of the world of Professional Theatre. Topics to be covered include broadcast, stage, film and comedy. Guest lecturers and workshop leaders will present throughout the semester. Specific topics include such items as: Agents, Comedy Festivals, Equity Theater and others. This class will also afford the Acting student the opportunity to present work they are currently preparing for Acting classes.
Voice and Articulation DRAM 2336
This class focuses on vocal technique. The class studies sound formation, breathing, and physiology as it applies to the voice. The class strives to improve voice quality, diction, pitch and performer stamina. Highly recommended for all acting students.
Musical Theatre - Theatre Workshop DRAM 1323 Section I
This class studies and performs techniques in 20th and 21st Century Musical Theatre.
Stagecraft I DRAM 1330
This class focuses on construction techniques and theatre safety. A basic of any theatre major's degree plan, stagecraft covers basic theatre terminology and backstage practices.
Lighting Design DRAM 2374 (SPRING ONLY)
This course is a study of the principles of lighting design, the basics of electricity, color theory and the aesthetic of stage lighting.
Make-up for the Stage DRAM 1341 (FALL ONLY)
This class covers the theory and practice of the varied and unique aspects of theatre make-up. Techniques from corrective, to gore to fantasy make-up are explored.
Theatre Practicum I, II, III, IV DRAM 1220, 1221, 2220, 2221
This class meets once a week. The class is an opportunity for the department to bring an industry professional to discuss with students different aspects of the entertainment industry.
Introduction to Theatre DRAM 1310
The class touches on prominent people in theatre history, major movements in the development of theatre from ancient Greece to the theatre of today, and the basics of theatre architecture, terminology and techniques. This is a core class that serves as a humanities credit.
Film Appreciation DRAM 2366
This course fulfills a Humanities requirement by surveying cinema from its creation through today. It explores the historical context and sociological effect of film as an art form.
Film Appreciation II DRAM 2367
This course explores ground breaking films and their effect on the industry and society as a whole.
