TSI Testing

The Accuplacer test is a computer adaptive test. It is administered on a walk-in basis within the times listed below. The average length of test time is approximately 3 1/2 hours.

Test Center requirements for taking Accuplacer:

  • You must submit a DCCCD application for admissions prior to testing
  • You must bring an Accuplacer referral form from the appropriate program department. (Advising, Admissions, Dual Credit, AVID, Upward Bound, Financial Aid etc.)
  • You must bring a photo I.D.

Unless otherwise exempt, each undergraduate student who enters a public institution of higher education must be tested for reading, writing and mathematics skills prior to enrolling in any course work. For these initial testing purposes, Richland College uses the Accuplacer test, which is an approved alternative test instrument prescribed by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for TSI testing.

The ACCUPLACER is ALSO available on Tuesday & Thursday 9:00a.m. - 5:00 p.m. during the entire month of August, due to peak registration.

No food, drinks or calculators are allowed into the lab. ALL Cell phones MUST be turned completely off.

Please be aware that testing rooms are monitored by cameras and the computer screens are monitored.

ACCUPLACER Entrance Exam

The ACCUPLACER consist of 5 parts with an average test time of 3.5 hours.
Reading: 20 questions, no time limit.
Essay: 300-600 words, 60 minute time limit.
Sentence Skills: 20 questions, no time limit.
Math: Elementary Algebra test of 12 questions- no time limit

A score of 69 or higher on Elementary Algebra will branch into the College Level Math placement test. (20 questions, untimed)
OR
A score of 68 or lower on Elementary Algebra will branch into the Arithmetic placement test. (17 questions, untimed)
