Open to qualified musicians by audition only, this high-energy variety cover band consists guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, percussion, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, male and female vocalists. From Motown and classic rock to trash disco and contemporary pop, this group does it all. Directed by Dallas band leader Gene Glover, "Richland Rocks!" is based on his own professional variety cover band The Roof Raisers.
Auditions for the Fall 2008 cohort of Richland Rocks! will be held Thursday August 14,2008 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Call (972) 238-6284 to set up an audition time. Enrollment in the class is permitted only after audition and invitation to join the group. Students who enroll for the class prior to audition and do not pass the audition process will be required to take a different ensemble or withdraw from the class.
About the instructor: In his 35 year career as a professional drummer, vocalist, and band leader, Gene Glover has performed with top artists including Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Barry White, Peabo Bryson, Patti Austin, The Moody Blues,George Strait, Reba McIntire, Johnny Cash, Jim Nabors, Delbert McClinton, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, The Drifters, The Platters, The Coasters, Mary Wells, Rita Moreno, Sandi Patti, Larnelle Harris and Candi Staton, as well as songwriters Alex Harvey and Gary Nicholson. Gene has recorded over 5,000 station ID's for radio stations all over the world and has recorded over 100 albums. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in music from the University of North Texas, where he performed in the renowned 1:00 o'clock Lab Band. In July of 2006 Gene and his group The Roof Raisers performed for over 2500 meeting planners at the MPI National Convention In Dallas while sharing a stage with Hootie and the Blowfish.
