DCCCD Money Card

DCCCD MONEY CARD FAQs

How do I get my DCCCD Money Card?
Students will only receive their DCCCD Money Card after they have confirmed their address through eConnect (log in required www.econnect.dcccd.edu). For security reasons, you will also be required to answer your Challenge Question each time you access this screen. If a student updates their address through the Registrar’s Office, he/she must still confirm his/her address through eConnect before the card will be mailed.

Is this process required?
Yes, for all students who are taking one or more credit classes.

Is this just for Financial Aid students?
No, if you are a credit student with the DCCCD, which includes credit students who are also DCCCD employees or taking a CE class, you are eligible to receive a DCCCD Money Card.

I don’t want the DCCCD Money card because I don’t think I will ever get a refund/disbursement. Why is it important to receive a DCCCD Money Card anyway?
Although you might not currently expect a refund/disbursement from DCCCD, we may have a refund/disbursement for you in the future. It may be necessary to drop a class, a class may be cancelled, or you may simply receive a scholarship or assistance you were not anticipating.

Why do I have to create an activation word?
The Higher One process requires a student verify the address they want the Higher One "Money Card" mailed.  At the time of address verification students are asked to provide an Activation word.   The activation word along with the number on the "Money Card" unlocks the Higher One site to allow students to choose how they receive their DCCCD disbursements.

How long will it take for me to receive my DCCCD Money Card after I’ve confirmed my address through eConnect?
After you verify your information, your card will arrive in the mail within 5-7 business days. If your card does not arrive within this time, you can use the Where’s My Card screen to check on the status. You will be required to provide your last name, Student ID, and “activation word”. If you are unable to use this screen or have other questions regarding your card, please contact Higher One.

What if I forget my activation word?
eConnect has an option in the Payments & Disbursement section for students to see what they entered as their activation word.

What are my options for receiving my refunds/disbursements?
Easy Refund to the One Account
ACH Transfer to a 3rd Party Bank
Paper Check

If I choose ACH Transfer or Paper Check, can I get rid of my Higher One card?
No. Even if you choose to have your refunds mailed to you or wired into your own account, you will still always need to have your Higher One card number to access your account in the future.

What exactly is the OneAccount?
The OneAccount is a fully functioning FDIC Insured FREE CHECKING account that allows you to access your financial aid refunds quicker and easier. The OneAccount  has no minimum balance, no monthly fees, and free Internet banking features. You may also use the DCCCD Money Card to make purchases anywhere Debit Mastercard® is accepted and withdraw cash with no fees at Higher One ATMs located on campus.

How will I know when my refund/disbursement has been direct deposited to my OneAccount?
Higher One will send an email to the address you entered during activation when your refund/disbursement has been deposited to your OneAccount.

Can I have my refund/disbursement deposited to another bank  account?
Yes. You may have your refund/disbursement deposited to the bank of your choice. In order to do so, select ACH transfer (to other bank) for your refund preference during the activation process and complete, print, and mail the required third party form to the designated address.

What happens if the student’s card is lost or stolen prior to activation?
The student must contact Higher One and request a new card. There is no charge to replace a card that has not been activated. Once the card is activated there is a $20.00 replacement fee.

What happens to the disbursement/refund if a student does not activate the DCCCD Money Card after receiving it in the mail?
Funds will be held 21 days and then a check is automatically issued and mailed to the address on file if you have verified your address online with Higher One.

Are there fees associated with using the DCCCD Money Card as the Higher One “One Account” debit card?
In order to avoid the $2.00+ ATM fee, students must use a Higher One ATM machine. Students may withdraw up to $500.00 p/day without incurring service fees.   To avoid debit fees when using the card to make purchases, they should use the card as a credit, not as debit. See the Higher One Fee Schedule –  https://www.higheroneaccount.com/info/outfees.jsp.

Where can I find a HigherOne ATM machine?
There is a HigherOne ATM machine in the Richland College campus next to the cafeteria.

Where can students cash Higher One checks?
If the student does not have a bank account, they may be required to use a check cashing service.
