Method Description Courses Using This Method Target Population
Lecture Classes are taught by an instructor using a traditional lecture approach. Some sections may also use group work and cooperative learning activities. Homework is assigned on a regular basis and exams are scheduled throughout the semester. A graphing calculator is required in most courses. All Students who are self-motivated but who want an instructor-driven course.
Computer Mediated Classes are taught using computers as the primary source of instruction. No hom relatively self-paced with scheduled tests, and possibly scheduled due dates for assignments and quizzes. Some instructors my give mini-lectures periodically throughout the semester. MATH 1414 Students who are self-motivated. Students who like "lecture" but who want to have more control over the pace of the course and their learning.
Web e These are lecture courses that are web-enhanced with an online component. This online component is usually an online homework system for students to use outside of class. Computers are available on campus in a variety of labs or students may access the program from outside of campus. Math 1316

Students who are self-motivated, but who want an instructor-driven course.

Online Classes are taught using a software package from a publisher. This is the same software as for the Web e courses. A home computer or the ability to access a computer off-campus is required. The course is relatively self-paced with scheduled tests and set due dates. Online quizzes and written homework could be required in some classes. Some classes my require participation in online discussion boards.  Written exams must be taken at the Testing Center at Richland college and attendance is required at an orientation session that is usually held on the Saturday before the first day of classes.
