What Visitors Should Know

1. Books and other resources are available for use in the library.  Visitors may use the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) to locate library materials.  Those with Texshare cards have limited check-out privileges.  Please visit the Circulation Desk for more details.

2. Electronic databases may be accessed through the online catalog while in the library.  Remote access to these resources is limited to students and employees of the Dallas County Community College District.

3. Reference librarians will help you find answers to research questions, help you locate books,  show you how to access the Internet and how to search the online databases.

4. Photocopying and printing are available to visitors.  You must set up a printing account in L122 with a $1.00 bill. All prints are black and white and cost 5¢ per page. Visit the Reference Desk for assistance with printing.

5. Library Computers may be used by visitors in the library.  Students, faculty and staff at Richland College have priority in the use of computers.  Minors may not use computers except under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian.  Library computers may not be used for commercial purposes and must be used in compliance with state and federal laws. See library use policy at http://www.rlc.dcccd.edu/library/usage.php

6. Internet access is available on library computers.  Computers are located in public areas and material being viewed is not private.  Users must be considerate of other library users and refrain from displaying material that might reasonably be considered objectionable to others.

7. Food, drinks and water bottles must be kept inside bags or backpacks.  Cell phones must be muted or turned off when entering the library.  Library users who disregard these rules may be asked to leave the library.

8. Library hours vary throughout the academic year.  Visit the library’s website for hours of operation.

9. Books are located in the reference collection on the main floor and in the main collection on the lower floor of the library.  Popular magazines and journals are located in the Lago Vista area.

10. Some online resources may be accessed from off-campus by non-students.  Links to these resources are provided in the menu below.
