Why should I work at KDUX-TV?

The difference between career success and failure, no matter what your major, could be a job at KDUX-TV. Student staff and volunteers from Richland Community College and departments, not just journalism, are given an extraordinary hands-on broadcast experience. KDUX-TV staff and volunteers learn on state-of-the-art professional equipment including control room systems, field and studio cameras, linear and non-linear editing systems, news writing software, and lighting techniques. Students graduating with experience at KDUX-TV can land some of the best jobs in the broadcast industry, including positions with all the major television network affiliates. Most importantly KDUX-TV offers a fun, learning environment with an emphasis on developing strong work and journalistic ethics.

Do I have to be a journalism student?

Absolutely not. Anyone is welcome to come and get involved. Currently we have people with majors ranging from speech to business to multimedia and are always looking for more help.

Do I have to be on camera?

No, at KDUX-TV you are welcome to pursue any position you would like. This would include everything from being a photographer to a website developer to a promotions director and so much more. For a more complete list of positions available at KDUX-TV, please check out our list of job descriptions.

What if I don't have a lot of free time?

No problem. KDUX-TV offers a variety of positions that allow everyone to commit as much or as little time as they wish. Staff positions carry the heaviest burden of responsibility and time commitment. However, volunteer positions provide more freedom and allow staff members more flexibility.

Are KDUX-TV positions paid?

Some jobs with KDUX-TV carry modest salaries most often funded by work-study awards. ThThursday, April 2, 2009kills. Many other volunteer positions are available that allow for more flexibility and creativity. Dedicated individuals often prefer the more creative volunteer positions, such as anchoring, reporting, or videography.

Beginners are usually considered volunteers. Students who have been trained and can commit to regular time slots are considered for a limited number of paid positions. Students with experience and work study awards are encouraged to apply for paid positions. Need-based work study and merit-based work study applications are available from the Office of Financial Aid during the first few weeks of the spring and fall semester. Work study awards are typically two semesters, beginning with the fall semester. Merit-based work study is awarded by the station manager at the start of each spring semester. Need-based work study is based on financial aid need and is awarded through financial aid and the station manager.
