Richland Chronicle: Richland students publish the Chronicle student newspaper daily online and weekly in print. The Chronicle won the Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker in 2000, 2001 and 2007, and was a finalist in 2003, 2006 and 2008. Former managing editor Michael Hernandez was the ACP Reporter of the Year and former editors-in-chief Misty Dean and Marcia Abernathy were recognized as "Leaders of the Student Press." In addition to moving into editor positions with student newspapers at UNT, UTA, UT, SMU, UTD and TAMU-Commerce, many former editors and staff now work for newspapers such as the Fort-Worth Star Telegram, The Dallas Morning News and the Plano Star.
KDUX Web Radio: Listen live to music, news and events around campus. Former KDUX Web Radio student directors have moved into leadership and on-air positions at UNT, UTA, UTD and TAMU-Commerce. Former KDUX on-air hosts Randy Aguebor and Robin Everson won awards in live contests competing against radio students from major Texas universities.
KDUX-TV is a student-run television station, designated as a public forum, where students are encouraged to make content and programming decisions. It produces a variety of programming, ranging from news and sports to music and on-location remotes. KDUX-TV is located at Richland Community College and can be seen at www.richlandcollege.edu/kduxtv.
KDUX-TV is dedicated to providing the students and organizations of Richland Community College with a forum to inform, educate, and entertain. This is accomplished by creating quality, student-produced television programming while maintaining a learning environment for students interested in television, broadcasting, production, and/or management.
Students use state-of-the-art news gathering and editing software, such as Associated Press' ENPS and Adobe's Premiere Pro CS4. A television studio allows students to get on-the-job training and practical experience in the daily tasks of a professional broadcast journalist. Students are encouraged to tell their stories by using all the mediums available, including TV, radio, web and print.
Numerous state and national media organizations like Associated Collegiate Press, College Media Advisers, Collegiate Broadcasters Incorporated, Texas Associated Press Managing Editors, Texas Intercollegiate Press Association and Texas Community College Journalism Association regularly recognize the excellence of Richland student media with group and individual awards and scholarships.
