Campus closings and/or delayed opening procedures

If you suspect a college closing or delayed opening due to inclement weather, there are many ways to find out if Richland is closed or will open later when the roads are safe.

  1. The Dallas County Community College District website (http://www.dcccd.edu/)
  2. Richland College's homepage http://www.richlandcollege.edu will display a notification of any closings or delays.
  3. Major television or radio stations such as http://www.wfaa.com/weather/ in the event that the DCCCD or Richland College websites are not operational.
  4. Call the Employee Inclement Weather Hotline: 972/238-6912
Call-in times for Richland are 5:30 - 6 a.m. the morning you suspect a closing or delay.
(Students should call their Inclement Weather Hotline at 972-238-6196.)

If the college is closed, and you are responsible for recording a greeting on a main phone line, please call in right after you are aware of a closing or delay, and change the greeting on your voicemail. Some departments have found it helpful to establish a system to notify their department. If you don't already have a phone tree established, now might be a good time to exchange home and cell numbers, and decide on a notification process.

For questions about the hotline number, call ext. 6194.

* Please do not call outside of this window to prevent ovreloading the District phone system.
