Financial Aid News
There are new changes in the Financial Aid Verification Process. Documents are no longer turned in to the Financial Aid Office for verification.
Students: If you have applied for financial aid, check your email for the subject line "More Financial Aid Info Needed" from facc@dcccd.edu.
The Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy has changed.
If you are on financial aid "suspension" at the end of the Summer I 2011 term, you will automatically be placed on "warning" instead of "suspension" under the new requirements. If you are placed on Financial Aid Suspension for exceeding the maximum time frame to complete your program of study, you have exhausted financial aid eligibility and may not receive financial aid benefits again. Financial Aid Suspension cannot be appealed. Previous hours attempted will continue to count toward your 150% maximum limit even if your DCCCD academic transcript is cleared for a “fresh start”.
New SAP Requirements
- You must earn and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
- You must successfully complete 67% of all attempted credit hours, excluding
developmental and ESOL courses, to avoid being placed on financial aid "warning.
- You must not attempt hours in excess of 150% of the minimum credit hours
required to complete your program of study.
Example:
If you are pursuing an associate degree program that requires 66 hours, you
must complete the degree within 99 attempted hours. You will lose eligibility
for additional financial aid to complete the program after 99 attempted
hours.
New Status Rules: Warnings and Suspensions
Financial Aid Suspension cannot be appealed regardless of the reason or justification.
-
If you do not maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA or successfully complete the necessary number of hours attempted, you will be placed on "warning".
-
If you are placed on "warning", you should visit the Financial Aid Office to discuss your SAP status. An Academic Advisor can talk to you about your GPA and the additional hours you need to take in order to meet your SAP requirements.
-
If you are placed on "suspension", you must pay your own tuition, fees and cost of class materials until you meet the required SAP standards. Your progress will continue to be reviewed at the end of each semester of enrollment. Your eligibility will automatically be reinstated for your next term of enrollment once you meet the required SAP standards. No appeal for reinstatement is required. The DCCCD Office of Financial Aid will notify you when you have met the requirements for reinstatement.
New Requirements for Transfer Students
- This new set of requirements also means that if you are a transfer student who plans to take classes at a DCCCD college during the Summer 2011 semester (Summer I or Summer II), then you will be placed on “warning” immediately when you enroll because financial aid SAP calculations cannot be completed before the summer semester begins.
- If you are a transfer student who plans to attend a DCCCD college during either Summer I or Summer II in 2011, then you should know that the one-semester grace period for turning in transcripts to financial aid no longer exits. As a result, transfer students must have all transcripts submitted and evaluated before the end of their first term at DCCCD so that their SAP can be calculated.
