Technology Requirements:
To participate in Distance Learning courses, you must have access to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Dial-up Modems use traditional phone lines to provide Internet access. You must gain access through an Internet Service Provider (ISP). The connection speed depends on the quality of the phone lines and the speed of the modem. For dial-up service you will need a modem and phone service. In some instances streaming media, such as video and audio, may not be accesible with a dial-up service.
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) provides Internet access via special phone lines. The ISP is usually a telephone company. For DSL service you will need a DSL modem (provided by the service provider) that is connected to an Ethernet network interface card (NIC) in your computer. The speed of access and quality of streaming media may depend on the number of users accessing the internet in your local area. DSL internet access usually provides sufficient connection speed to view streaming video and other media.
Cable Internet access is provided via a cable television service provider. For cable service you will need a cable modem (usually provided by the service provider) that is connected to an Ethernet network interface card (NIC) in your computer. Cable internet access usually provides sufficient connection speed to view streaming video and other media.
