The Richland College Dance Theatre Department provides a challenging teaching and learning environment for students that values diversity and develops artistic excellence, fosters creative and collaborative practices, and encourages personal agency and social responsibility in appreciating dance.
We accomplish our mission by providing students with a solid grounding in technique in multiple dance idioms, mounting student-centered productions and performances, hosting guest-artist residencies, and engaging in collaborative projects with other departments across the College.
We recognize students’ life experiences and encourage all to express themselves through the creation and performance of diverse dance works. Although our focus is primarily in non-traditional contemporary dance styles, we also offer opportunities for growth in traditional musical theatre dance, in association with the drama department. Professional collaborations with guest artists in the community include master classes, workshops, and performances. Our guest includes companies such as Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Nova Dance Company, Dallas Dance Company, and the Big Rig Dance Collective.
