Karen Cuttill

I am a flexible, non –traditional counselor in the aspect that there is no couch, no expert vs. client, no dredging up years from the past. Working together in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere each individual finds the answers they need for their unique situation. Everything we talk about is strictly confidential.

I like to think of myself as an “option generator”. By helping people to think creatively and find new perspectives on situations they are able to discover solutions to their problems. As a solution-focused counselor, trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I work quickly to help people generate those options and begin to feel a positive change in their situation.

While helping people who are dealing with all kinds of problems, I find working with people who are experiencing situations that they just don’t know how to get through, those who are feeling overwhelmed and need help with stress management /life balancing and non-traditional students (older than average, international, multi-cultural, etc.), to be very rewarding. I am not afraid to help people who have spiritual concerns, anxiety issues or depression. I have experience counseling teens as well as adults of all ages. I particularly like the individual who comes to me thinking that they have a situation that is way out there; perhaps even unchangeable…I am a non-judgmental and accepting person, one who likes the challenge of difficult problems.

I was a non-traditional student who returned to college and completed both my undergraduate and graduate degrees later in life than the average student. I am a former DCCCD student who remembers well how hard it was to balance school, work, family and everything else that life gives you, seemingly all at once. I would like the opportunity to work with you to find solutions to your problems.
