Command Spanish in Kuwait
Richland College is a licensed provider of Command Spanish, the #1 Occupational Spanish Language Training in the county.
Command Spanish is NOT conversational or academic Spanish. It enables an individual with little or no Spanish-speaking skills to communicate TO a Spanish-speaking person - not vice versa. This may seem limited but it really is not. Many work conversations involve simply relaying directions or asking questions resulting in yes or no answers. The training is also totally focused on the job at hand i.e., Spanish for Banking is for the bank work environment, Spanish for Restaurant Staff is for the food services industry, and Spanish for Manufacturing is for the factory floor. In addition, there are training components that focus on cultural awareness in the workplace.
Richland College can provide you a wide variety of Command Spanish programs including new programs being introduced like "Command Spanish for Mission Teams" and "Community Spanish: A Survival Guide for English Speakers."

Of the many job specific training programs available from Command Spanish, few programs are more important than those designed to serve First Responders including police, fire, and emergency care personnel.
The Command Spanish programs for First Responders were designed by Command Spanish staff who shadowed police, fire, and EMT's on the job. The words and phrases the participants learn are drawn from real life and death situations. The video clip/story from Channel 11 in the attached link features Tommy Marion, Richland College's certified Command Spanish instructor. It providestestimonials as to the effectiveness of Command Spanish and the need in the law enforcement/emergency response field for basic Spanish survival skills.

Navy Reservist Cesar Rodriguez, a certified Command Spanish and Richland College instructor, contacted Richland College Corporate Services in April this year from Camp Arifjan, a military hospital located near the the Iraq border in Kuwait. During down-time at the camp, Cesar expressed an interest in teaching Command Spanish classes to his fellow servicemen and women.
With the support of the college, seven Command Spanish classes were set-up through Richland College Continuing Education. As Richland's educational partner, Command Spanish donated over $2,000 in materials and shipped everything at no charge to Cesar. The classes included:
Command Spanish for Nursing
Command Spanish for Dental Care
Command Spanish for the Physicians Office
Command Spanish for Respiratory Therapy
Command Spanish for Eye Care
Command Spanish for Law Enforcement
Command Spanish for Manufacturing and Warehousing
56 students at the camp participated in classes throughout May-July and Richland College awarded CEU's and certificates.
In mid-June, two packages arrived from Kuwait for Kon Kelley in Corporate Services and Cindy Janke in Continuing Education. Enclosed were American flags, a letter and certificate.
