Baseball team advances to World Series Championship game for sixth time

For the secoond game in a row, the Richland College baseball team needed only five innings to win a game.

Only this time, the 17-2 thrashing over Montgomery on Monday evening advanced the T-Ducks to the NJCAA Division III World Series championship game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20. Because it’s a double-elimination tournament, should Richland lose Wednesday’s contest, the T-Ducks can still win the championship with a victory at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 21. Read More.

Powered by 14 hits and a Chris Castillo grand slam in the second inning, the Richland College baseball team defeated Riverland, 14-8, in the first round of the NJCAA Division III World Series tournament on Saturday, May 16. Read More

Richland College baseball team (43-13), advances to World Series for second straight season.

For the second year in a row, the Richland College baseball team will play in the NJCAA Division III World Series. The T-Ducks earned a trip to the World Series after they beat Eastfield College, 4-2, for a second time in three days in the District C championship game on Sunday. Richland beat Eastfield 5-1 on Friday, and beat Tyler 14-6 on Saturday to move into the finals on Sunday.

This is Richland's eighth trip to the World Series in the last 11 season under head Coach Joe Wharton. With his 12th season almost under his belt, Coach Wharton has compilied an overall record of 471- 240. Richland College, ranked No. 1 in the latest NJCAA Division III polls, is looking to improve on a third place finish at last year’s World Series baseball tournament. The World Series will be held from May 16-21 in Tyler, Texas

Richland cleans house in placing seven on the M.A.C. All-Conference team and five earning All- Region honors. K.C. Pfister was named Conference Player of the year and Kirk Pritchett was named Conference Pitcher of the year. K.C. Pfister, Kirk Pritchett, Cody Stigall, Colin Elmore, and Chris Castillo were named All Conference and All Region while Chad Rogers and Steven Richardson earned All Conference. All-American selections will be made next week. Congrats to these young men.

Richland improves to 40-13 on the year to close out the regular season. Richland handed Northlake loses of 8-6 and 15-3 and will now prepare to defend it's District championship this weekend where the winner will advance to the NJCAA World Series. Richland will face cross- town rival Eastfield at 6PM at Craig-Ranch in McKinney in round one.

The Ducks traveled to Abilene and dropped both ends of a double header to Midland college that was played at Hardin Simmons University. Despit having leads late in both games, the ducks fell 6-3 in game one and 6-5 in game two in extra innings. The ducks travel to Northlake this weekend to finish off conference play as the district C tournament will start next Friday May 8th. Richland will enter the tournament as the #1 seed.

Richland College (ranked #1 in the country), finishes off the three game sweep of Tyler J.C. to clinch the 2009 metro athletic conference championship. The Ducks won game on 6-5 of friday, then won both games on Sat 5-2, and 3-1. Steven Richardson picked up his 6th win of the year by taking a no-hitter into the 8th inning, but lost it on a full count single up the middle. The ducks move to 30-3 in conference and are 38-11 overall.

Richland moves to 35-10 on the season after traveling to Blinn College in Brehnam, Tx and winning 8-5. Blinn came into the game with a record of 35-13. The ducks will play Western, Ok this Thursday 4/23 at 3PM, and host Tyler J.C. this weekend here at Richland College.

Richland completes the sweep of Mountain View but most likely loses NJCAA National Player of the year shortstop Cody Stigall for the season after suffering a major knee injury. Stigall is hitting .470 and is a big part of the ducks offense. With the three game sweep, the Ducks move to 33-10 overall and 26-3 in conference. Next up is Grayson Co. on Monday with a single game starting at 2PM here at home.

Ducks rebound to beat Panola 14-2 in a single game that was held in Carthage, Tx. This moves the ducks to 30-10 on the season. "I am very proud of my guys on how they rebounded from yestersdays loss, they showed a lot of heart and that's what we need coming down the stretch" head coach Joe Wharton said. Panola came in ranked #7 in the D1 Poll, while Richland remains #1 in the country in the Division III Poll.

Ducks lose heartbreaker to Blinn 20-19 today to drop to 29-10 on the year. Richland managed to get up 14-2 thru the 4th inning but couldn't hang on down the stretch. Catcher Patrick Peterson struck out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th to end the contest. The Ducks travel to Panola today for a single game starting at 3PM.

Ducks complete the sweep of Cedar Valley winning 14-1, 5-4, and 20-19 to move into sole possession of first place in the Metro Athletic Conference. They open up a two game lead over 2nd place Tyler. Richland moved to 29-9 on the season with a conference record of 23-3.

Richland pounds Eastfield 19-2 to win the series and runs their record to 26-8 on the season. Trevor Burton and Colin Elmore had three hits each and Chad Rogers tossed a complete game, five hitter, to run his record to 6-2 on the year. The Ducks host Cedar Valley this upcoming weekend.

Ducks top Hill J.C. 9-6 to improve to 24-7 on the year. With the score tied 6-6 going into the bottom of the 8th inning, freshman John Paterson hit a two run home run to put the Ducks ahead for good. Steven Richardson tossed a complete game in recording his first collegiate win.

The Ducks looks like they have things back on track after sweeping Brookhaven this past weekend 10-4, 6-1, and 14-4. They run their record to 23-7 overall and 16-2 in conference. Shortstop Cody Stigall leads the ducks posting a .455 batting average through the first 30 games. Kirk Pritchett is 7-1 on the mound with a healthy 2.61 ERA and 57 Strikeouts.

Head Coach Joe Wharton collected his 450th career win today with a 10-4 victory over Brookhaven College. His career coaching record is 450-234 which is a .658 winning percentage.

The Ducks offense could not provide the timely hit in losing both ends of a double header to Tyler J.C. by the scores of 6-1, and 5-1. In game one, the ducks committed three costly errors and left 11 men on base. In game 2, the ducks also committed 4 errors and left 15 men on base. So, the Ducks fall to 17-6 on the season, one game back of tyler for first place in the Metro Athletic Conference.

Richland took game one of the three game series with tyler with a 12-6 win. The score was 12-2 until Tyler scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning. The series will conclude tomorrow with a double header starting at Noon.

Richland improves to 16-4 on the year after the pitching staff tosses a No-Hitter in a 2-0 win against Murray State, OK. The duck's offense continues to struggle only producing four hits on the day, but proved to be enough. Richland will travel to Tyler this weekend in a battle of the two undefeated teams in the metro athletic conference.

The Richland College baseball teams got it's first reality check of the season losing both ends of a double header to Paris J.C. today losing 14-3, and 5-4. The ducks got steam-rolled in game one, but in game two they let one slip away. Up 4-0 going into the 6th inning, Paris hit a three run home-run to cut the lead to 4-3. They hit a 2 run home-run in the 7th innings to slip past Richland which falls to 15-4 on the year.

Ducks fall to 14-2 on the year after Northeast Texas J.C. defeated Richland 7-6. The Ducks committed 5 errors and only produced 4 hits on the day. Northeast will travel to Richland on Wednesday 2/25 in a rematch.

Ducks repond to Mondays loss to northeast by winning 4-2. 2B Chris Castillo hit a two-run Home Run in the bottom of the 6th inning that proved to be the difference. Freshman Kirk Pritchett has another productive outing, tossing 8 innings of 4 hit ball, improving his record to 5-0 on the year. The ducks will host Paris J.C. in a non conference game this Sat.

Congratulations to former T-Duck Justin Fiske to be invited to big league spring training with the St. Louis Cardinals. Justin was an all-american here for Richland in the 2004 season when the Ducks went 49-16 and won the NJCAA National Championship. We wish him all the best!!

The Ducks move to 14-1 on the year after sweeping mountain view in a three game set this weekend. Winning on friday 8-5, then getting them twice on Saturday 11-4, and 15-5. Richland stays undefeated in conference at 12-0. The Ducks will be tested this week traveling to Northeast texas on Monday, then hosting them here on campus Wednesday. Richland is hitting .390 on the year with a team ERA at 2.90.

Richland stays undefeated after sweeping Cedar Valley this weekend by the scores of 7-2, 4-1, and 12-0. Through the first 11 games, Richland has a team batting average of .391 and an ERA of 2.83. The Ducks (11-0), will host McLennan on Monday 2/16 here at Richland at 2PM.

Richalnd pounds Hill 24-4 in a non-conference game to move to 8-0 on the year. The ducks pounded out 2 hits including 7 players that had atleast 2 each. Chad Rogers from Galveston went 5-6 with 9 RBI's, and SS Cody Stigall hit for the cycle in his 4 plate appearences. The undefeated ducks travel to Cedar Valley for a 3 game set this weekend.

Richland off to best start in school history by sweeping Eastfield this past weekend 9-8, 13-3, 8-0. The ducks are a perfect 7-0 on the young season.

The Thunderducks enter the 2009 season being ranked #2 in the first NJCAA Poll, take on Brookhaven in a three game set to kick off the season.

The T-Ducks off to a rock solid start after sweeping Brookhaven 7-3, 5-2, and 8-2. The Ducks are already on top in the Metro Athletic Conference with a 3-0 start. The Ducks travel to McLennan for a single game in Waco on Monday.

Ducks beat Division 1 McLennan Community College in waco 10-9 to move to 4-0 on the young season. Chad Rogers and Matt Williams both had home runs and Richland pounded out 15 hits on the day. The ducks will face Eastfield college here at the Thunderdome this coming weekend in a big three game series.

Former T-Duck John Allen was named Batter of the Week, again for the Ft. Worth Cats' for the American Association's Batter of the Week for the second week in a row, it was announced today. He batted .438 with five homers and 12 runs batted in. Last Saturday, Allen set an American Association record with four home runs against El Paso. He also had eight RBIs in that game and five runs scored. He is the second player in American Association history to be named Batter of the Week in consecutive weeks.

Former T-Duck Justin Fiske named Double A pitcher of the week in tossing a seven innings of one hit ball on July 31st. He currently has a 2.61 ERA for the Springfield Cardinals.

Former T-Duck Blake Walker (2007 Grad), signs a free agent contract with the New York Mets. Blake hit .401 and was named All- American here at Richland in 2007.

Nine players off the 2008 National Championship 3rd place team have signed to play at four year Universities. SS Robert Barbosa is the latest to sign. He will be playing shortstop at Oral Roberts University coming this fall.

Josh Walter (2006 Grad), who was a two time All American here at Richland signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers and will report to camp. Josh played his last two seasons at Texas State University.

John Allen (2002 Grad), is leading the Fr. Worth Cats with a .327 batting average with 9 Home- Runs.

Ex- Duck Justin Fiske (2005 Grad), gets promoted and now is playing for the AA team in the St. Louis Cardinals Organization located in Springfield, Mo.

T-Ducks collect All-american honors. Congratulations to Of- Travis Latz (first team), 1B- Jon Masch (first team), and Phillip Clinard (second team) for being selected as NJCAA all american for 2008.

T-Ducks finish 3rd in the 2008 NJCAA World Series. With the score tied at 2 in the 9th inning, Richland (47-16), committed 4 errors that let to a 7-2 loss to Gloucester, NJ.

T-Ducks Punch their ticket to the NJCAA 2008 world Series

Richland College (45-14), won the District C Tournament this weekend
to earn a berth in the NJCAA World Series that will be held in Tyler, Texas
starting Saturday May 17th. Richland went undefeated in the tournament beating
North Arkansas 12-3 on Friday, Eastfield College 6-1 on Saturday, and Tyler
Junior College 12-3 on Sunday. Richland will enter the World Series hitting
.392 as a team on the season with 105 Home Runs. Head Coach Joe Wharton, in
his 11th season at Richland, will be taking his team to the Series for the
7th time. They won the crown in 2002, 2003, and 2004. This follows finishing
National Runner up in both 1999 and 2000.

Richland ends season as Co- Champions, and advance to the four team Regional playoff that will be held in McKinney Fri 5/9-5/11. The winner will advance to the NJCAA World Series that will be held in Tyler, TX 5/17-5/22. This is the first conference championship for the ducks since 2004.

Richland sweeps northlake as the bats came alive over the weekend. Scores of 11-0, 11-1, and 22-12. The Ducks finish the regular season with a overall record 42-14. Coach Joe Wharton has had three teams over his first 10 seasons that recorded over 40 wins, and all have advanced to the NJCAA National Championship Game.
