We will meet at the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Library on the Alamo grounds on the Sunday afternoon of your week's session. The registration area will open at noon, and the Opening session will begin at 1:00 P.M. Look for the CCHA/NEH workshop signs. It is warm in San Antonio in June, so dress comfortably. You may need to “layer” clothing in air conditioned rooms.
Lodging & Meals:
We will be housed at the Hampton Inn (Downtown) at 414 Bowie Street. You can contact them on-line at (www.hamptoninn.hilton.com) and I have included a copy of their web page with this mailing. We reserved a block of rooms with a group room rate of $120.00/night (single or double).
If you want to reserve a room for a non-workshop guest, or if you wish to stay in a separate room with your family, you can do so. But, we need to fulfill our commitment to the hotel, so please book your rooms through me by May 29, 2009. All room costs will be deducted from your $750.00 stipend. Those of you who wish to room separately from the group will be responsible for your hotel costs and will receive your $750.00 stipend to apply as you wish. I am attaching a tentative rooming list with this letter. Please let know me what adjustments I need to make.
Breakfast is included with your room, and some of our events will be catered, but for most lunches and dinners you will be on your own. I have included some restaurant suggestions in this mailing. They can be accessed on-line at (http://www.sanantonio.com/restaurants). You can find information about San Antonio at ( http://sanantonio.citysearch.com/search?&flavor_id). You will find more information about San Antonio at ( http://www.hellosanantonio.com).
Transportation:
For those of you arriving by air, I have included web page information for the Suvana Service, the shuttle company that serves the San Antonio area. You can book the service on-line at URL www.suvana.com, or you can board the shuttle from the designated area after you arrive. The estimated one-way cost for this service is $18.00. There are also car rental agencies and taxis available at the airport. The cost for these varies.
