Pre-Internship
The Pre-Internship consists of classroom instruction (104 total clock hours), field experience hours, training, test preparation, and lab hours.
MODULE 1 Special Populations: Legislation, Litigation, and Advocacy (20 clock hours)
MODULE 2 Emerging Literacy/Language Acquisition and Reading Process (32 clock hours)
MODULE 3 Behavioral Aspects of Classroom Organization & Management (20 clock hours)
MODULE 4 Instructional Strategies and Learning Theories (32 clock hours)
MODULE 11* Study and Review for TExES Exam (20 clock hours)
Field-Based Experience – Students are required to complete 30 clock hours of observation/field experience in an approved educational setting prior to the internship year. This phase is intended to ensure that interns will be prepared to start their first year of teaching.
Pre-Internship Training* - The 80 clock hours of training, required by the Texas Education Agency, prior to the internship year, will be integrated in the coursework. Students will complete training, lab hours, staff development, and additional training.
* 50 clock hours of pre-internship training may be provided by a TEA approved continuing professional education provider school district and/or campus, and will be appropriately documented.
Internship
The Internship consists of 116 hours of classroom instruction, and supervised field-based experience.
MODULE 5 Accommodating Diverse Populations in the Classroom (20 clock hours)
MODULE 6 Seminar in Special Problems in Reading (32 clock hours)
MODULE 7 Microcomputers in Education (32 clock hours)
MODULE 8 Practicum in Special Education (Fall and Spring Semesters total 32 hours)
MODULE 11* Study and Review for TExES Exam (20 clock hours)
Post-Internship
The Post-Internship consists of a total of 60 hours of classroom instruction and application.
MODULE 9 Designing Instructional & Behavioral Programs for Special Populations (20 clock hours)
MODULE 10 Educational and Psychological Measurement/Evaluation (20 clock hours)
MODULE 11* Study and Review for TExES Exam (20 clock hours)
* A TExES teacher examination review course/module may be taken/completed more than once.
