African American Students at Richland College

Basic Program

This program is the most flexible as it can be applied to any degree. It is designed for students who wish to enhance their professional marketability without pursuing an ethnic studies degree. These course offerings are part of the core curriculum and may be taken to satisfy basic requirements in all degree plans. The program consists of 27 hours in courses with emphasis in African American/Black Studies, plus 15 hours in service learning within the African American community.

All Courses must be selected from specific sections designated as African American/Black Studies (AABS).

English 1302 (AABS) or Speech 1315 (AABS) 3 hrs
Social/Behavioral Sciences  
History 1301 (AABS) or History 1302 (AABS) 3 hrs
Psychology 2301 (AABS) or Sociology 1301 (AABS) 3 hrs
Government 2301 (AABS) 3 hrs
Humanities/Visual and Performing Arts  
Humanities 1305 (AABS) or English 2326 (AABS) 3 hrs
Minimum Class Hours Required 15 hrs
II. SERVICE LEARNING
African American Community 15 hr
